Starting a new medicine can bring questions about how it works, when to take it, and what to expect. The New Medicine Service (NMS) gives patients extra support during the early stages of treatment so they feel informed and confident.
At Hyde Park Pharmacy, we use NMS conversations to help patients understand their treatment, discuss any issues, and improve the safe, effective use of prescribed medicines.
When you are prescribed a new medication for a condition like high blood pressure, diabetes, or asthma, our pharmacists provide a series of consultations to help you settle into your new routine.
How we help you succeed:
This service is fully funded by the NHS and designed to improve your long-term health outcomes.
We don't just give you advice once. The NMS includes follow-up checks over several weeks to ensure you are getting the most benefit from your treatment without any complications.
Benefits of regular reviews:
Our goal is to help you feel confident and in control of your medication journey.
When you first collect your medicine, we'll explain the service and provide initial guidance on how to take your new treatment.
After 7-14 days, we'll have a quick chat to see how you're feeling and address any early concerns or side effects.
Around 2-3 weeks later, we'll have a final consultation to ensure you're fully comfortable and the treatment is stable.
Managing a long-term condition can be challenging. Our pharmacy team is here to provide the extra support you need to ensure your medication is working effectively and safely.
